The application to have Imran arrested for contempt of court was denied by the court.
On March 9, a lower court in Islamabad is scheduled to resume hearing the case.
ISLAMABAD: On Monday, a district and sessions court in Islamabad approved Imran Khan’s request for leave after rejecting a request to issue an arrest warrant for him in a case involving contempt of court.
The PTI leader has already gotten himself into legal problems after making divisive comments against Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry.
Although the Islamabad High Court subsequently stated that it had been satisfied by Imran’s attempt to apologise to the judge and revoked its show-cause notice in October, Islamabad Civil and Sessions Senior Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim later issued a notice to the PTI leader in December after the police presented their charge sheet in the case to the court.
Read Imran’s statement, “Imported gov’t can never arrest me.”
Raja Rizwan Abbasi, the special prosecutor, argued that the former premier’s bail bonds should be suspended for today’s sessions.
Imran’s attorney, meanwhile, asked the court to grant an excuse for his absence on the grounds that “his health is not enabling him to travel to Islamabad” and that “the doctors have urged him to rest.”
However, Abbasi disagreed with the proposal and insisted that the medical report was created “at Imran’s own facility”—the cancer hospital run by the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust (SKMT).
“Shaukat Khanum is a cancer hospital, whereas Imran Khan’s problem is entirely unrelated, he continued. He’s swollen as a result of a fracture “.
The special prosecutor responded, “It is not as if Imran Khan has been ordered to walk to the court,” and again asked the court to revoke Imran Khan’s bail and issue arrest warrants.
Following the conclusion of the arguments, the court said that it had decided to approve Imran’s plea for a leave of absence from today’s (Monday’s) proceedings while rejecting the motion to issue arrest warrants for him.
Later, the court was dismissed until March 9.
