The Prime Minister assuages the worries of the MQM-P on the census.
Shehbaz issues a command to lengthen the enumeration process from three to ten days.
KARACHI: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged to allay the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-(MQM-P) Pakistan’s worries over the next digital census.
According to sources, a delegation from the MQM-P met with Prime Minister Shehbaz in Islamabad under the leadership of convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. Senior Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal, Advisor to the Prime Minister Sadiq Iftikhar, and their party’s leader Rauf Siddiqui were all part of the trip, with Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Malik Muhammad Khan accompanying the PM.
According to sources, the MQM-P complained to the prime minister about unfulfilled Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) commitments in Sindh and raised worries about the census. Their requests about the census were approved by the prime minister, and an official order would soon be issued in this regard.
In response to a request from the party who had been wronged, the prime minister ordered that the census be extended from three to ten days and that each apartment be marked rather than the main entrance of multi-story buildings. Leaders of the MQM-P praised the premier for making this choice.
The MQM-P leaders stated that no notice had yet been made about constituencies and noted that the prime minister and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), were the guarantors of the implementation of all demands.
Leaders of the MQM-P expressed dissatisfaction over the PPP’s numerous guarantees and promises that had not yet been fulfilled.
