The public has a right to know if any of our nuclear assets are coming under any kind of strain: It would appear that Pakistan is being coaxed into playing a role that is detrimental to both its national and strategic interests, according to the Rabbani Senator.

ISLAMABAD:
Senator Raza Rabbani, a former Senate leader and prominent PPP figure, stated on Monday that Pakistan’s citizens have a right to know if the nation’s nuclear assets are being threatened.

The nation also requires knowledge of “whether our strategic partnership with China is under jeopardy or we are being called up to play a role in the region which will assist the military presence of an imperialist power,” Senator Rabbani continued.

He continued, “These and other questions necessitate a policy statement on the floor of a joint sitting of the house by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The senator continued by stating that the parliament must be given a hearing on the urgently required agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as the issue of friendly nations, with the exception of China, being reluctant to assist Pakistan without the assistance of the global lender.

“The Parliament needs to be taken into confidence given the IMF’s hesitation to sign the deal and the unwillingness of friendly nations, with the exception of China, to assist without the IMF.”

He continued, “It appears that Pakistan is being coerced into playing a role that is counter to its national and strategic interests.

The senator added that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the rise in terrorism are issues that the government has neglected to address.

The senator said, “It appears that either the PTI or the current governments seek azadi [independence] from Parliament and the Constitution, 1973.
