ISLAMABAD:

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and a former prime minister, stated on Tuesday that if any Toshakhana presents were given in an unethical manner, appropriate action must be taken.

Addressing to reporters in front of the accountability court, Abbasi confessed that his name was on the list of people who received Toshakhana gifts. “Whenever any gift is received from overseas, it is put in the Toshakhana,” he said.

He continued by saying that the Toshakhana sets the present’s price and that payment must be made in order to receive the gift.

People have been going to the accountability courts for years, according to Abbasi, but no judgements have been rendered.

The former premier argued that even if the investigations involving politicians continue, the next National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief should put an end to the cases of the poor.

The former prime minister stated in response to a query that no efforts are currently being made to found a new party. Pakistan has enough political parties, he continued.
It should be mentioned that the PML-N leader was present in the courthouse because he had an accountability court hearing for the LNG reference scheduled.

Today’s case was heard by Judge Nasir Javed Rana. The NAB prosecutor stated that the LNG reference’s arguments have been exhausted throughout the hearing.
He continued by saying that the court has been given authority under the amendments to the NAB rules. The accountability court may refer the open case to any tribunal under the new amendment.

When Abbasi indicated he would be unable to attend the previous session, the judge responded that Abbasi might send his solicitor in place of him.

Final arguments on the jurisdiction and acquittal pleas could not be presented because of the new amendment, therefore the case hearing was postponed until April 4.
