Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), commended the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Thursday for denouncing the “excessive use of force by police” at Lahore’s Zaman Park.

Imran commended the association for taking a “strong stand” in support of the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law in the nation and expressed gratitude for their condemnation.

The tweet stated, “We also appreciate your denunciation of the government’ disproportionate use of force in Zaman Park.

The former prime minister added that the PTI “will stick to this vow with full determination” and reiterated that his party was established on the idea of the rule of law.

An endeavor to detain the former premier in connection with the Toshkhana case was restarted by Islamabad Police, with support from Punjab Police and Rangers, a day earlier. Due to Imran’s repeated attempts to avoid being charged, the judge issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for him.

But, PTI employees resisted them vehemently and hurled stones at them. Tear gas bursts were used by the police as a response.

Following hours of back and forth, which the foreign media referred to as “pitched fighting,” the personnel pulled back to Mall Road and emptied out.

The SCBA denounced all legal transgressions and “any excesses performed by law enforcement authorities or anybody who has taken the law into their own hands” in the wake of the development.

Abid S. Zuberi, the president of SCBAP, and Muqtedir Akhtar Shabbir, the secretary, released a statement in which they stated that the association supported the rule of law, the constitution, and the honor of court decisions.

In a democratic nation where the rule of law and the Constitution are upheld, violence of any kind is never acceptable. It is strongly denounced that so much force was used on the former Pakistani prime minister. Additionally, the way that warrants are served is exceedingly arbitrary, spiteful, and against the law. As a result, such violence must be halted right away, according to the statement.

“Due process must be followed, and every individual must be treated fairly. Both law enforcement personnel and the general public are prohibited from using excessive force, initiating conflict, or endangering either public or private property. All citizens have a responsibility to follow court instructions, the statement said.

The board further stressed that the state must focus on and ensure execution of the verdict of the Supreme Court and must make arrangements for the holding of elections as per the directive of the top court and “not create unnecessary law and order situation under any pretext”.
