The caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab has instructed the police to have a “free hand” in the event of more “attacks.”
Naqvi also makes an announcement regarding the formation of a JIT regarding the Zaman Park tragedy.
Mohsin Naqvi, the interim chief minister of Punjab, said on Monday that he would give the police “full rein” if they were “attacked” once more and that a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) would be formed to look into the mayhem that broke out at Zaman Park last week.
During a news conference held in Lahore, it was announced that the province government has chosen to inform the Pakistani Election Commission with all the incident’s details (ECP).
The existence of the province’s government and state must be made clear, continued Naqvi. The effort to clean the road was completed two days ago since the PTO was unable to keep the roads blocked indefinitely, he continued.
The police and Rangers had “reached the gate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) head Imran Khan’s house but were pulled back twice because the government did not want any violence,” the speaker continued.
Naqvi added that a vehicle belonging to the elite unit was halted and pushed into the canal.
“The writ of the state does not exist if a police car is thrown into the canal, but now the writ of government will be established, and the hands heading towards the police will be broken,” he said.
The inspector general (IG) has been granted complete authority to take the necessary actions, the acting chief minister added, adding that the Rangers’ term has also been extended.
He added that “everyone knows who they were” and that whatever occurred during the Zaman Park operation was not the product of political agents.
The caretaker CM explained that he supports the provincial police force and threatened those who “raise their hands against the police” with a similar response.
While Naqvi played a video of “treatment of the police by PTI workers,” he asserted that it was impossible for the cops to work and be beaten while doing so.
Everyone has the right to participate in politics, but this mentality is intolerable, he insisted.
The former prime minister, according to Naqvi, is threatening the police, and if he doesn’t trust them, he should let go of the security the Punjab police are providing.
A compensation scheme for the hurt police officers was also disclosed by the interim chief minister. According to him, the interim administration has agreed to provide police officers who were only slightly hurt with Rs0.1 million and seriously hurt ones with Rs0.5 million.
On March 18, police barged into the PTI leader’s Zaman Park home in Lahore and broke down all doors and barriers before beginning a “surprise” search inside the building.
During the operation, PTI employees are said to have fought with the elite force and other police officers, damaging official cars in the process.
The senior leadership of PTI invited armed individuals from the region, according to the first information report (FIR) of a case filed against PTI officials and workers, and 13 police officers, including a DSP, were hurt as a result of stone-throwing by PTI members.
Constable Shafiq, according to the police, was allegedly tortured by 40 PTI employees on his way home from work.
