The CJ should provide for negotiation time between the parties: Elections would be discussed with the opposition, according to Zardari, the leader of the PPP, after the ruling coalition finds consensus.

ISLAMABAD:
PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday requested time from Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial to discuss the topic of elections through a process of conversation, which he saw as a positive response to Bandial’s idea.

We’d want to negotiate for a single day of voting as well. The two of us have been talking about [it] recently,” he continued.

The country’s previous leader has stated that the ruling coalition will meet with the opposition to discuss the matter once a consensus has been established.

Jamaat-e-Islami, like Zardari, has welcomed the CJP’s suggestion and asked the Supreme Court for extra time so that political parties may negotiate.

The JI stated its attempts to begin conversations with seriousness were being led by party chairman Sirajul Haq.

The JI claimed it has begun outreach to other political groups for this very purpose.

Earlier in the day, during the hearings of the lawsuit connected to the postponement in polls, the attorney general for Pakistan stated that Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had seen the premier the previous day, and that all ruling parties, with the exception of one, were eager to engage with the PTI.

As he put it, “court gave more time” could be all that’s needed to get everything squared out.

Bandial, the Chief Justice of the Philippines, praised the AGP’s stance, saying it carried “some weight” and that the court might “make some room” if all political parties were on the same page.

If the political parties can find common ground, the court can move the elections to a more convenient time. The CJP has stated that elections would be held on May 14 if necessary.

But he stressed that we couldn’t afford to drag this out much longer.

The AGP told the Supreme Court justices that the JI was committed to using “political means” to find solutions to the issues at hand.

JI leader Liaquat Baloch met with PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain at his Lahore home the day before.

The head of the JI asked the head of the PML-Q to work together to ease political tensions during their meeting.

It was also decided in the conference that elections would be held simultaneously throughout the country.

In order for the country to go ahead, Shujaat stated his party sought to end the current turmoil.

He insisted that the country could not thrive under the current circumstances since the institutions were at odds with one another for the first time.

Elections, according to PML-Q main organiser Chaudhry Sarwar, should be held simultaneously to resolve the current political impasse. He also pointed out that recurrent elections would be too costly for the country’s budget.

Sarwar believed that politicians should prioritise improving people’s level of living.

In an effort to encourage PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan to enter into talks with the government over elections, JI leader Siraj paid him a visit at his Zaman Park home in Lahore on Saturday.

He had also visited with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier that day to talk about it.
