Punjab, AG Departure of Shan Gul
Gul resigns due to “domestic commitments,” according to his statement.

Advocate General of Punjab Muhammad Shan Gul submitted his resignation on Saturday, citing his incapacity to carry out his duties as a result of home obligations he was unable to put off.

The letter was addressed to the Governor of Punjab, Muhammad Balighur Rehman, and the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and it claimed that “it was in the early stages of my return to private practice after only recently having not been confirmed as a permanent judge of the Lahore High Court that I had found myself approached by Mr. Mohsin Naqvi, Mr. Zahid Akhtar Zaman, and Mr. Ahmed Raza Sarwar, in relation to the appointment I accepted this prestigious post since I had been clearly told when I was offered it that it would only be for a short period, according to the resignation letter.

It continued, “It pains me to mention that the office was tarnished at the time of my assumption of office, including matters that had been lingering for over a year, including opinions sought by several agencies and Order XXVII-A notices. I am very happy to say that there are no open cases at the office right now, which I consider to be a major accomplishment.

“Therefore, it is with great sadness that I must notify you that, effective June 27, 2023, I will be unable to carry out the duties of my office due to prior domestic obligations that I will no longer be able to put off. In light of this, I would be incredibly thankful if my resignation as advocate general of Punjab was accepted effective June 27, 2023.

Gul concluded his resignation by saying, “It has been an honor and privilege to have served this office and province under your kind auspices. I hall forever remain indebted to yourself and the province for this gracious opportunity.”
