After PTI leaders Qureshi and Umar fail to appear in person tomorrow for the hearing of their bail requests in connection with the May 9 riots, police’stop’ them from entering IHC High court.

Due to their absence from Thursday’s hearing in the May 9 riot charges, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Asad Umar and Shah Mehmood Qureshi were unable to secure respite from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Former federal ministers’ bail applications in cases filed at the Tarnol police station following the May 9 protests were heard by IHC Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir.

Ali Bukhari, counsel for the petitioners, stated that the two leaders tried to enter the high court at 7:30 in the morning but were turned away by police. He requested that the court review the IHC gate CCTV footage.

After hearing the lawyer’s motion to grant Qureshi and Umar till tomorrow to appear in court, the judge delayed the case.

After their bail requests were denied by a lower court, the PTI leaders appealed to the IHC.

When a local court refused Qureshi and Asad Umar bail in a case related to the May 9 incident, the two men made a desperate attempt to avoid arrest by fleeing the courthouse earlier this week.

Several protesters stormed key governmental and military installations on May 9 in reaction for the arrest of the PTI leader on corruption accusations.

Several party officials and members were subsequently arrested and charged with encouraging violence and disruption.

Qureshi and Umar stood out as two prominent leaders who did not renounce their party memberships after their release from prison. This was in contrast to the majority of their former comrades.

However, Umar resigned from his position as PTI secretary general after being released from jail last month.

Cases of fire and damage against state and public property brought the two leaders before Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Supra.

The two PTI leaders were seen leaving the courthouse as soon as the judge announced his decision to deny bail.
