PESHAWAR — On Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the PM National Laptop Scheme to provide gifted students in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the merged territories with access to laptop computers for the purpose of furthering their education and conducting cutting-edge research.
K-P Governor Haji Ghulam Ali, Caretaker Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan, Federal Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Ziad Akram Durrani, Special Assistant for Youth Affairs Shaza Fatima, PM Adviser Engr Amir Muqam, federal and provincial ministers, HEC chairman and students all attended the laptop distribution ceremony at the Governor House.
The prime minister gave laptops to the top students at each university in K-P who hold positions of leadership.
As the event’s keynote speaker, PM Shehbaz announced that a laptops-for-talented-students scheme had been established across the country, including in K-P.
In addition, “no favouritism or nepotism will be tolerated in its distribution,” he said.
The prime minister announced that 100,000 laptops would be given to schoolchildren around the country in 2018. As part of the PM plan, one million computers have been given out to students around the country.
He argued that providing kids with laptops will help them compete for and succeed in high-paying IT careers.
According to the prime minister, students were able to keep up with their studies thanks to the laptops provided by the PML-N administration throughout the Covid-19 testing period.
The prime minister spoke highly of the law enforcement agencies, police, physicians, engineers, traders, and people of K-P, saying they played a crucial part in preserving the country from the danger of terrorism.
He claimed that the arrangement with the IMF was necessary for the country’s economy to remain stable.
