Pakistani child becomes Canadian ‘ambassador for a day
In honour of International Women’s Day, the Canadian High Commission has begun a programme called “Ambassador for a Day.”

ISLAMABAD: On March 15, 2023, the Canadian High Commission in Pakistan held its first-ever “Ambassador for a Day” event in honour of International Women’s Day. Nida Khan, a young Pakistani woman, had the opportunity to witness the daily duties of a Canadian diplomat thanks to the occasion.

Nida Khan spoke with Canadian diplomats, interacted with representatives of international aid organisations, and foreign and Pakistani officials at the event. She also took part in a number of other events that gave her a unique perspective on how a diplomatic mission operates. She also participated in several meetings with the High Commissioner, where she got the chance to ask detailed questions and get to know the people driving change in Pakistan.

“We are happy to launch the Ambassador for a Day programme and to provide a unique chance for a young woman to experience the realm of diplomacy first-hand,” said Her Excellency Leslie Scanlon, High Commissioner of Canada to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The occasion supports Canada’s feminist foreign policy, which advocates for women’s empowerment and gender equality. In a press release, the Canadian High Commission stated that it hoped to use this project to encourage young women and girls in Pakistan to follow their ambitions and make a difference.

Nida Khan, a bright and aspirational student from Chitral, hopes to one day represent Pakistan as a diplomat. Nida is a fierce supporter of women’s equality and inclusion, particularly in sports, and she is eager to learn more about the function of diplomacy in resolving these pressing problems. “We are convinced that Nida will bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the table,” the Canadian High Commissioner said. “We look forward to a successful and interesting day with her.”

Also, Nida Khan oversaw the Canadian High Commissioner’s Twitter account for the day, sharing her distinctive experiences with the public in keeping with the “Every Woman Matters” theme chosen by the Canadian government for this year’s International Women’s Day. The topic serves as a reminder that all women, regardless of their age or background, have a place in society’s economic, social, and democratic realms.

With its bilateral foreign development efforts, Canada is dedicated to advancing gender equality, inclusivity, and the promotion and protection of human rights. The Ambassador for a Day event supports these goals. It is a component of the High Commission’s continuous initiatives to collaborate with neighbourhood groups and partners in order to realise the broader objective of fostering inclusion, fair access, and equal opportunity.
