The Azam Swati ATC has issued an arrest warrant for you, while Asad Umar has been granted perpetual bail.
On Tuesday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) asked a special court in Islamabad to issue a non-bailable arrest warrant for Azam Swati, the head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
When Swati did not show up to be indicted for his inflammatory comments, the judge issued the warrants. The court heard that Swati’s attorney had not been in touch with his client for some time.
The attorney argued that the statute for non-bailable arrest warrants “is very different” and so resisted Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi’s request for the issuing of such orders against Swati.
The FIA’s attorney testified that Azam Swati did not voluntarily show up in court. The warrants for Swati’s arrest were eventually issued by the court.
Release on bail for Asad Umar
Meanwhile, in a case involving the arson of government vehicles, the assault of police, and the theft of their official weapons, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad has granted perpetual release to former PTI secretary general Asad Umar.
Umar, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, and others have been booked at the Golra Sharif police station in Islamabad in connection with the violence that occurred during Khan’s March 18 hearing before the district and sessions court in the Toshakhana case.
The newly appointed prosecutor provided the court with new evidence in opposition to Umar’s bid for permanent bail. The detention on incitement charges was questioned by ATC judge Raja Jawad Abbas.
The prosecutor insisted that arresting Umar was necessary to forward the probe. The judge was unconvinced, though, and granted Umar permanent bail.
