LHC Court disapproves of police for not following protocol; orders Anchor to appear in court within 48 hours.

The district police officer for Sialkot has been ordered by the Lahore High Court (LHC) to locate anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan and bring him before the LHC within 48 hours.
On Monday, after hearing a petition for the return of the missing journalist for the past five days, Chief Justice of the LHC Muhammad Ameer Bhatti issued this ruling.
The journalist was taken into custody by authorities on May 11 from the Sialkot Airport. He is a strong supporter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and his policies.
After former premier Imran Khan’s detention from the premises of the Islamabad High Court on May 9 provoked huge protests and riots, the government sprang into action and began a crackdown against the PTI supporters.
During the altercation between the police and PTI supporters, Imran Riaz Khan was reportedly arrested.
On May 12, the LHC directed the IG of prisons to bring the journalist before a judge that very day. But the IG reported to the judge that Khan had been released from jail.
After the SHO of the Sialkot Cantonment police station revealed on Monday that he had omitted information about the journalist’s arrest from the Roznamcha-diary, Chief Justice Bhatti suspended him.
After the law officer made an unqualified apologies on behalf of the SHO and the DPO, the court rescinded its suspension order, but gave the SHO 7 days to respond.
The DPO said in court that he had met with the sector commander in Lahore to inquire about Imran Riaz Khan, but that the sector commander had similarly denied knowing where Imran Riaz Khan was.
He claimed that a FIR had been filed with the police regarding his absence. According to the DPO, law enforcement has not yet used geofencing or requested CCTV footage. He asked the judge for at least two days to wrap up paperwork. His appeal was granted after some time had passed.
