Funeral prayers for the two troops who died on April 15 in South Waziristan during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) were first offered in Wana and then in their hometowns, according to a report on Monday.

The funeral prayers were attended by a sizable number of military leaders, soldiers, civil authorities, members of the public, and family members of the martyrs, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

“Pakistan’s Armed Forces are committed to doing whatever it takes to put an end to the scourge of terrorism. Such sacrifices only bolster our commitment, according to the ISPR’s statement.

The two deceased troops, Sepoy Rafiullah Shaheed, 22, of Lakki Marwat and Lance Naik Shoaib Ali Shaheed, 25, of Parachinar, District Kurram, embraced martyrdom during an IBO in the Zarmilan region of South Waziristan district.

An “intense exchange of fire took place” during the operation between security personnel and militants. According to reports, the operation claimed the lives of at least eight terrorists.

The military’s media wing had earlier stated that “weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists, who remained actively involved in terrorist activities against the security forces and the killing of innocent civilians.”

According to the ISPR, the region was being “sanitized” to get rid of any remaining terrorists.

The ISPR stated that “Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to eradicating the threat of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve.”
