RAWALPINDI: On Tuesday, General Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), went to the Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), where he was given an update on the status of existing projects and the most recent innovations in defence manufacturing.
The army commander was informed during his tour on the HIT’s technological capabilities, the status of existing projects, indigenization initiatives, and recently implemented modernization measures, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The COAS also paid a visit to other HIT factories where he saw the creation, reconstruction, and improvement of tanks, armoured personnel carriers (APCs), better security measures, remote weapon systems, and locally produced 155mm artillery cannon barrels for the Pakistani Army.
Gen. Munir emphasised the value of independence in the defence industry and commended the HIT for its contributions to achieving this objective.
He expressed his belief in the HIT staff’s ability and complemented their dedication to making HIT into a cutting-edge defence manufacturing facility that satisfies the needs of the Pakistani Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in accordance with international standards.
Gen. Munir noted that HIT is a centre for knowledge economy and R&D, which is essential for establishing self-reliance in defence manufacturing and boosts national exports and the economy of the nation.
