On Monday, the government of Punjab appealed a provincial court’s decision to award Pervaiz Elahi, the president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), protective bail.

The single bench’s decision to give Elahi protected bail has been appealed, and new parties have been added to the case, including the president of the PTI, the anti-corruption department, and others.

The petition claims that the bench’s verdict on the ex-Punjab CM’s petition runs counter to the facts.

The appeal argued that the single bench had disregarded legal criteria in the verdict and that Elahi was currently the subject of an investigation by the appropriate authorities.

Lahore High Court (LHC) has been asked by the provincial government to declare the single bench ruling null and void and to immediately suspend it.

Elahi is not allowed to visit his family because of his health condition.

Elahi was arrested last month for alleged corruption involving non-merit selections to the Punjab Assembly, but a judge at an anti-corruption court granted him bail after his detention.

If the former chief minister of Punjab was not needed for any other cases, the judge ordered his freedom. The judge also demanded that Elahi post Rs1 million in surety bonds.

The provincial Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) detained the former chief minister of Punjab on June 4 in a case involving bribery and unlawful recruitments, and a court magistrate in Lahore put him in judicial prison for 14 days. ACE was granted physical remand once again on June 12 by an additional session judge.
