LAHORE — On Saturday, former AJK prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas said he will “move forward together” with former PTI leader and sugar baron Jahangir Tareen.

Ilyas met with Tareen in Lahore and later told reporters that the conversation focused on the future of politicians who had previously left the PTI as well as the development of a new party.

There would be “good news” in the coming days, Ilyas said further.

In response to a question, he said that everyone would be “in one place” and that no “separate group” would be formed.

The former AJK premier further stated that he would play a significant role in the party and would have a vested interest in the success of the organization across all of Pakistan. To hear Ilyas tell it, the country comes first.

“Welcome anyone who is ready to leave the PTI and its narrative,” ex-Punjab minister Nauman Langrial stated.

According to reports, dozens of PTI leaders reached out to former PTI leader Jehangir Tareen in an effort to join his party.

After the terrible riots on May 9, many people started leaving the PTI in droves. During the protests, several government buildings, including highly secure military bases, were targeted.

The authorities have declared May 9 a “black day” and arrested a number of party leaders and activists in response to the events of that day. The administration promised that anyone responsible for the destruction caused by the riots would be brought to justice.

Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari, Imran Ismail, Ali Zaidi, Amir Kiyani, Saifullah Nyazee, Fayyazul Hassan Chauhan, and Musarrat Jamshed Cheema are only few of the senior-most PTI figures to leave the party.

Others who had been given PTI tickets for the Punjab Assembly elections but afterwards renounced them in protest of the violence and attacks on military sites on May 9 did so as well.

Concurrently, a number of politicians became more active in an effort to reap the benefits of the shift in power relations. Tareen, a one-time close ally of PTI leaders and current sworn enemy, is the most prominent example.
