On Thursday, Pakistan urged the United Nations to take an active role in enabling a ceasefire while strongly denouncing the indiscriminate use of force by Israeli authorities in Gaza. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan strongly condemned the indiscriminate use of force by Israeli authorities in Gaza and called for an end to the “inhumane” blockade causing the humanitarian catastrophe.
The brutal embargo and collective punishment by Israeli soldiers has created a catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, and it is rapidly deteriorating. Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a spokesperson for the Foreign Office, said in her weekly news briefing that the decision to cut off electricity, fuel, and water supplies to the enclave was unfair and should be reversed because it would have a devastating effect on the lives of Palestinians living there.
She claimed that the unprecedented nature of the crisis called for immediate action on the part of the international community. She emphasised the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and called on the United Nations to take “a proactive role” in supporting a truce.
She pleaded with Israel to stop the indiscriminate bombing of the Gazan population immediately. The spokesperson said, “It should fulfil its obligations as an occupying power under international law, lift the blockade, and allow unrestricted access to humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.”
Palestinians caught in Israel’s bombings have nowhere to turn.
She stated that the current cycle of aggression and violence was a sad reminder of, and a direct result of, over seven decades of illegal foreign occupation, aggression, and disregard for international law, including the UNSC resolutions that recognized the inalienable right to self-determination of the Palestinian people.
She also noted that Pakistan has been sounding the alarm about the dire consequences of Israel’s escalating and aggressive behaviour for months.
A viable, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine on the basis of pre-1967 boundaries, with Al Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, was the goal of Baloch’s demand for world involvement in achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable two-state solution.
She informed reporters that the Pakistani Permanent Mission to the OIC in Jeddah has been in contact with other OIC member states to consider holding a special meeting to address the present situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In response to a question, the spokesman said that as World Cup host, India was responsible for ensuring the safety of the Pakistani cricket team and its personnel.
She expressed regret that Pakistani sportscaster Zainab had been frightened by the filing of a FIR against her due to comments from some years ago that were attributed to her.
Concerning visas, Pakistan has been in constant touch with Indian officials, urging them to grant visas to all accredited Pakistani media and Pakistani fans in possession of tickets to these cricket matches.
She also reassured the Interim Afghan Government that Pakistan will do whatever it could to help with relief and recovery efforts in the wake of the quake that struck Afghanistan.
