The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned escalating incidences of Islamophobia and asked for the protection of all individuals against hatred and violence based on religion or belief in light of the repeated cases of desecration of the Holy Quran in the Nordic nations.

To discuss these events, which have offended Muslims everywhere, the 18th Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) was held online on Monday.
Pakistan was represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who stressed that these actions, nor the authority to carry them out, constituted freedom of expression. Instead, they display bigotry and hostility towards other religions.
He emphasised Pakistan’s resolve to collaborate closely with OIC member countries to raise awareness of the issue of deliberate desecration of the Holy Quran, particularly in Jeddah, Geneva, and New York.
The desecration of a Quran in Sweden has been condemned by church authorities.
In addition, Bilawal applauded the United Nations Human Rights Council’s (UNHCR) and the United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) adoption of resolutions encouraging religious tolerance and dialogue.
The foreign minister issued a plea for the spread of religious tolerance and mutual respect.
The suggestion for an Action Plan that includes the appointment of a UN special envoy to combat Islamophobia and the implementation of judicial measures to hold criminals accountable was first made by Bilawal earlier this year on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
He tweeted about the encounter afterward.
Virtually present at today’s 18th Extraordinary Session of the OIC-CFM, I voiced Pakistan’s deep alarm at the continuing destruction of the Holy Quran. The widespread revulsion at these atrocities was something I welcomed.

Pakistan condemns any and all acts of Islamophobia that raise alarm among Muslims worldwide. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has the duty to safeguard Muslims’ honour. To combat Islamophobia and to make our joint concerns as clear as possible, Pakistan has and will continue to actively participate in all OIC activities,” he tweeted.
According to a statement released by the Foreign Office, the Extraordinary CFM endorsed a comprehensive resolution expressing great concern about increased occurrences of intolerance, discrimination, and Islamophobia.
It reiterated the significance of the eight-point action plan to combat incitement to hatred, discrimination, stigmatisation, and violence based on religion or belief that was unanimously agreed upon by the UNHRC.
In addition, it urged all nations to either fully enforce their current legal and administrative protections against religiously motivated violence, or to create such safeguards from scratch.
