The AJK Prime Minister was fired for showing disdain.
Because of his anti-judicial sentiments, the High Court has disqualified Tanvir Ilyas and will not accept his apologies.
Tanvir Ilyas was removed as prime minister and from his position as a legislator by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) High Court on Tuesday due to allegations of contempt.
In a notification, the AJK Election Commission Secretariat stated that Tanvir Ilyas was no longer eligible to serve as a member of the AJK Legislati: “Pursuant to the judgement dated April 11, 2023 passed by the Honourable High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in Robkar Adalat vs. Tanvir Ilyas, Prime Minister Govt of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and sub-article (2) of Article 25.
The notification from July 27, 2021 that declared him to be the returned candidate for the AJK Legislative Assembly Constituency No. LA-XV, Bagh-II, is “with effect from April 11, 2023 in consequence thereof the notification dated July 27, 2021 to the extent of declaring him to be rescinded with effect from April 11, 2023.”
Ilyas received notifications from the AJK superior courts on Monday asking him to respond to questions concerning his stance on insulting the judiciary in public comments. Tuesday’s court appearances for the prime minister were requested by the AJK High Court and Supreme Court.
Ilyas has accused the judiciary of interfering with the operations of his government and the executive branch through stay orders.
The premier of the AJK had stated that a court injunction was the reason why a multimillion dollar Saudi education project was not completed. He also spoke out against court decisions to reopen tobacco companies that had engaged in billions of rupees’ worth of tax fraud.
He was found guilty of making statements that were critical of the judiciary by the high court’s full bench on Tuesday, and they also handed down a punishment.
Ilyas’ criticism of the judiciary was noted by the court, which rejected his apologies.
AJK PM: Land preservation laws enforced in AJK, as reported in
Ilyas’ disqualification has resulted in the dissolution of the whole AJK cabinet.
The decision was made at a time when political tensions in Pakistan are at an all-time high as a result of the crises surrounding the elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the subsequent dissolution of their respective assemblies.
Ilyas was the premier of AJK for less than a year and is a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). On April 18, 2022, he was chosen without opposition to become the region’s 14th prime minister.
Illyas had submitted nomination papers on behalf of the PTI following Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi’s resignation as the premier of the AJK, and the assembly secretary had accepted them as authentic.
Whereas Chaudhry Yasin had been jointly nominated by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), PTI Chairman Imran Khan selected Ilyas as the party’s nominee for the Prime Minister Office.
The unified opposition abstained from the voting, so Ilyas had no competition when he received 33 votes in favour of becoming prime minister.
Khan Abdul Hameed Khan was chosen as the first prime minister of AJK on July 5, 1975. Since 1985, AJK has utilised a parliamentary system. The positions of AJK PM had previously been held by Sardar Sikandar Hayat, Sardar Atiq Ahmad Khan, and Raja Farooq Haider Khan.
