IHC demands a report in contempt of court proceedings against Imran IG Islamabad; the local administration has been instructed to present the security report in court by April 7.
ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the relevant parties to submit a security report about the disruption of law and order caused by PTI head Imran Khan’s visit to the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) last week.
A hearing regarding a contempt of court petition brought against Imran Assistant Commissioner (AC) Abdullah Khan through his attorney Rizwan Abbasi was being presided over by Chief Judge (CJ) IHC Justice Aamer Farooq.
Imran was told not to stir up a law and order crisis by the court, AC Khan claims in his appeal, but “he broke those directions.”
Although PTI workers threw stones at the police stationed outside the FJC, the AC claimed that the police had made security preparations in compliance with court orders. As a result, several law enforcement officers were hurt.
The IHC today directed the IG of Islamabad and other relevant local government officials to submit a report on the events of March 18.
The court postponed the trial until April 7 and combined it with another case being handled by the IHC that is looking into the disappearance of the Toshakhana case file.
Last week, police and Imran’s supporters fought for many hours as the PTI leader was traveling to Justice Zafar Iqbal’s court.
Imran was given permission by the court to sign his paperwork from his car, which was parked outside the courthouse where his indictment was to be determined, despite the confusion.
Shibli Faraz, the ex-chief premier’s of staff, had gone to seek Imran’s signature along with SP Malik on the order sheet, but when he got back, the file had been reported missing.
However, owing of conflicts between police and party activists outside the FJC, the PTI chairman was permitted to depart after registering his attendance without being charged.
