In preparation for the PTI rally in Lahore, Section 144 was enacted.
In the event that the situation becomes “out of control,” the restrictions that are in place during the day could be extended.
LAHORE: The Punjab government announced late on Saturday night that Section 144 would be implemented in Lahore for one day only—Sunday—while issuing a warning that the restriction could be extended if things “went out of control”.
Caretaker Punjab Information Minister Amir Mir cautioned PTI Chairman and former premier Imran Khan not to “take the law into his hands” during a press conference.
In the provincial capital, he claimed, Section 144 was being upheld, and no one would be permitted to organize a rally or other large-scale gathering.
He mentioned that the city was also going to host a marathon, a cycle race, and an HBL PSL game on Sunday (today), and he assured them that everything would go as planned for those events.
Amir claimed that Imran had “suddenly” announced his political rally despite the fact that these events were taking place.
One of the main justifications he gave for the implementation of Section 144 was the security of the cricket teams.
He recalled that the PTI had previously announced a rally even though the Aurat March and a game were already scheduled.
The PTI leadership was asked to move their political program to a later date, according to the acting provincial information minister, but they refused.
He issued a warning that Section 144’s enforcement would be further increased if PTI showed any resistance.
According to Amir, anything done prior to April 6 was considered a “political activity.” He also noted that this date was the official start of electioneering.
During the PTI rally on March 8, he refuted accusations that the government was to blame for the passing of PTI employee Bilal.
