In three separate cases, the court has decided to prolong Imran’s interim bail until April 13th.
Earlier, the chief of the PTI was given the order to appear in court; counsel stated that individuals who attend hearings are eligible for relief.
The interim bail for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was extended by a special anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday till April 13 in three instances.
The former premier showed up in front of the ATC after receiving a summons to appear in court at 11 a.m. The PTI leader had submitted bail requests in three FIRs lodged with the Race Course police station under various counts, including an alleged attack on police officers and torching state buildings in the Zaman Park region.
Imran was previously given bail till April 4 (today), and the police were forbidden from arresting him.
Imran Kishor, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), claimed there was no inquiry concerning Imran Khan during today’s session. In response, Imran’s attorney, Barrister Salman Safdar, suggested that he provide the police with a written statement or allow the JIT to visit Imran’s home in Zaman Park.
The on-call judge observed that it would be better if the attorney submitted a written statement.
The court was informed by Safdar that he was ready to provide Imran’s written statement. The court then instructed him to finish the inquiry as quickly as feasible and ordered the leader of the JIT to appear at the following session.
Imran Khan arrived at the ATC under a significant security presence at the court. The hearing was subsequently postponed because of a rush.
The ATC judge and Safdar walked to a different courtroom, and the court personnel instructed everyone to leave the room, including the media.
The court then continued the PTI leader’s temporary release in three cases while postponing the hearing to April 13.
Imran Khan “has joined the probe,” the lawyer announced to the court in front of the sitting judge.
hearing earlier
Today’s hearing got underway without Imran. The application was considered by the court’s on-call judge, who was also informed by the former premier’s attorney that Imran is under serious security threats.
When the court questioned whether Imran would be alerted that he must appear, his attorney responded that Pakistan has had two prime leaders assassinated. He asked the judge to grant Imran until 1:30 pm to appear in court.
However, the court stipulated that Imran must show up by 11 am, stating that even if the PTI leader is not there, a decision will still be made in accordance with the law. Only those who come before the court will be granted remedy, the court stated.
However, the ATC denied PTI leader Hamad Azhar’s request for a temporary release on bail due to noncompliance.
The court also denied Fawad Chaudhry’s request for an interim bail in the cases of arson, assaults on law enforcement, and meddling in governmental affairs on the basis of noncompliance.
