PML-Q leader Shujaat visits his cousin Elahi in Lahore jail to check on his health and discuss the current political climate.
An intriguing occurrence occurred on Monday when Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) chairman Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain visited Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president Parvez Elahi in Lahore Camp Jail. The two were once thought to be inseparable.
The PML-Q leader was accompanied by Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Shujaat’s son. The Shujaat were concerned about Elahi’s well-being during the meeting. The political climate was another topic of conversation between the two heads of state.
The discussion took place in the jail’s administration building and lasted for roughly an hour. According to credible reports, the Interior Ministry approved holding this meeting.
Elahi’s son Moonis Elahi, who was a federal minister under the PTI government, tweeted the news after the meeting.
In his words, “Today IG Prisons personally escorted Chaudhry Shujaat Sahib and his son Chaudhry Salik Hussain to meet him [Parvez Elahi].
The ex-ministers mother, Elahi’s wife, and his father were denied permission to meet with the PTI leader, and the ex-minister protested to his mother.
‘Now we may expect them to tell us that the weekly meeting [of the accused with his family] has already taken place,’ he said, referring to the jail’s administration.
After his arrest by the province Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in a case involving bribery and unlawful recruitments on June 4, a judicial magistrate in Lahore placed the former Punjab chief minister in judicial detention for 14 days.
Despite a government crackdown and a subsequent huge departure of officials from the erstwhile ruling party, Elahi is one of the PTI leaders who is holding steady with the party chairman, Imran Khan.
Former PML-Q politician Elahi switched to the PTI in March, just two months after party leader Imran Khan dissolved the provincial assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
