PESHAWAR:
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of the Jamiat Ulemae-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), called for a big Jirga on Friday, and its participants, who represented all major political parties, voiced their dismay at the lack of progress in fighting terrorism.

The Jirga advocated a decisive military operation to restore peace to the region and asked for a summit of all parties to create a united front against terrorism. When speaking to the media following the Peshawar Jirga, Maulana Fazl assured everyone that the next general elections would go off without a hitch, and that the caretaker government would be in charge of the entire process.

All political parties and tribal leaders were invited to the Jirga following the fatal Bajaur attack on a JUI-F convention. While everyone shared their thoughts on the state of global terrorism, Maulana Fazl pressed for a final resolution that everyone could agree on.

He demanded that those guilty for acts of terrorism and the deaths of innocent people be held accountable. Law and order in the tribal districts and throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) was a major topic of discussion at the Jirga.

The report encouraged the federal government to make good on its pledges to improve the lives of people in tribal villages and bring the so-called “tribal belt” up to level with the rest of the country. Terrorism, which posed a threat to Pakistan’s unity, was a subject of Maulana Fazl’s repeated calls for zero tolerance. He reaffirmed that despite setbacks, JUI-F is still determined to fight terrorism.

Fazl told reporters that the party’s council, or shura, would meet to address the problem in greater depth and try to reach an agreement with all political groups on the issue of terrorism. In addition, he called for severe punishment for those responsible for the attacks on security facilities on May 9.

In spite of running as an independent party in the 2018 general election, JUI-F has now joined forces with other political parties for the betterment of Pakistan. In order to preserve national harmony and security, the Jirga called for immediate measures to combat terrorism.
