The Chief Justice made this statement while addressing delegates at a two-day symposium on population and resources hosted by the Law and Justice Commission and funded by the Health Ministry and the United Nations Population Fund.

Justice Bandial emphasised that it is not enough for courts to simply point out wrongdoing; they must also make protecting people’s rights a top priority. He emphasised the necessity for national unity on the question of how to best take advantage of the country’s rapid population growth.

The Chief Justice gave the examples of Iran and Bangladesh, both Muslim countries, as places where population control measures had been implemented with great effectiveness.

Justice Bandial stressed the need of a stable family unit that encourages and facilitates formal education and training in light of the need to limit the human population. He argued that education, especially vocational education, is essential for population management and society progress. The Chief Justice made it clear that protecting individual liberties is at the heart of the Supreme Court’s mission.

The people of Pakistan, as stressed by Justice Bandial, have an obligation to propose remedies to the government. He argued that the State had a responsibility to ensure the health and happiness of mothers and children. In light of the country’s rapid population growth, the Chief Justice has asked for an all-encompassing plan.

Justice Bandial, reflecting on Pakistan’s past, spoke of the people’s shared sense of duty and charity in the early days of the country.

As the CJP said, the people of Pakistan paid money to the government when it was first established in 1947 and the country was poor.

The people of Pakistan had a sudden awakening to duty at that point. He even mentioned that Germany and China have received loans from Pakistan in the past.

He argued that education and vocational training were essential to achieving prosperity, and that accepting simplicity was a necessary first step.

The Chief Justice emphasised the importance of this conference as a means to open channels of communication and investigate potential solutions. He said that it’s important to generate opportunities through conferences like this because litigation typically reaches the highest court.

During the two-day meeting, the CJP emphasised the need of judges in recognising and adapting to societal shifts, and he pledged to offer thoughts and recommendations.
