Pakistan has named Shadab as their captain for the Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan.
The first event of the series will take place in Sharjah on March 24.

The three Twenty20 International matches that will take place in Sharjah between Pakistan and Afghanistan have each been scheduled for fifteen players each.

SQUAD: Shadab Khan (C), Abdullah Shafique, Azam Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Ihsanullah, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Haris (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shan Masood, Tayyab Tahir, Zaman Khan.

The current captain of the national team, Babar Azam, will step down to make way for Shadab Khan, who will take over as captain.

On Sunday, the chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Najam Sethi, contacted Babar, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Fakhar Zaman to let them know that they will be allowed to rest.

In order to better manage his workload, Haris Rauf has also been given some time off.

The board is concerned about the amount of work that players have to put in. Thus, the board considers this to be a crucial decision in light of the future, particularly the Twenty20 World Cup that will take place in 2024.

Najam Sethi, Chair of the PCB Management Committee, said:

“I’d like to begin by extending my congratulations to Shadab Khan on being selected to lead the Pakistani team in the upcoming series against Afghanistan. Because Shadab Khan has served as Pakistan’s vice captain in white-ball cricket for the past couple of years, it is only natural for him to lead the side in the absence of Babar Azam for the three Twenty20 International matches that will take place in Sharjah.

“We have also appointed Mohammad Yousuf as the interim head and batting coach in order to ensure consistency throughout the brief Sharjah tour,” said the team’s manager. Yousuf has been working with the national team as a batting coach since the previous year. In addition, he has been contributing to the National High Performance Centre.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) came to an agreement about a week ago to make some minor adjustments to the schedule for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 International series between Afghanistan and Pakistan that will be played in Afghanistan.

The beginning of the series has been moved up by one day and will now begin on March 24. The final two games are scheduled to take place in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on March 26 and 27.
