Elahi’s post-arrest bail application was granted, and he was ordered to post a Rs500,000 surety bond.
The court noted at the hearing that the FIA had ignored its order to produce case files.
After the investigating agency apprehended the PTI leader and asked for physical remand, a special court in Lahore granted him post-arrest bail.
Elahi family is not helping with the investigation, FIA tells LHC.
The FIA had asked the court to release the former chief minister of Punjab, but the judge instead placed him on 14 days of judicial remand.
It was expected that Elahi, a prominent member of the PTI, would be re-arrested despite the court’s acceptance of his bail request against a surety bond of Rs10,000 and the order for his release from District Camp Jail.
During a crackdown on the PTI following the May 9 protests, Elahi was initially detained in June on graft charges. After being released on bail, he was promptly re-arrested on two separate occasions for money laundering.
