“Who let terrorists return?”: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif criticizes the PTI for a security breakdown in K-P.
The Prime Minister inquires about the utilization of the KP counter-terrorism budget during the time that the PTI was in power.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is allegedly failing to maintain security despite the availability of special money, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has expressed grave concern about the resurgence of terrorism in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The prime minister stated during a federal cabinet meeting on Wednesday that PTI had been in power in the province for the previous 10 years and was in charge of protecting the lives of innocent people who had been the victims of a recent wave of terrorist attacks.

According to the prime minister, the K-P government has received Rs 417 billion since 2010 as part of the National Finance Commission Award, and the money was given with the intention of enhancing the capabilities of the KP police and security services.

He claimed that the province had a right to the money, but he questioned how it was used.

Despite the creation of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), he questioned where the money had been spent.

PM Shehbaz recalled how the Radd-ul-Fasaad and Zarb-e-Azb operations, which restored calm throughout Pakistan, exacted the prior loss on terrorist forces.

The reintroduction of terrorism in the province, he claimed, should result in the K-P government being held accountable.

He made an apparent statement on PTI Chairman Imran Khan when he said, “Who regarded the terrorist as ‘jihadi’ and allowed them to return?”

PM Shehbaz praised the K-P people for their bravery and tenacity in enduring the worst of terrorism.

In the fight against terrorism, he continued, people from all walks of life—including politicians—have sacrificed their lives. He also emphasised how worrying it was that terrorist elements were returning.

He said that several members of the province’s political families, including the former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, had perished as a result of terrorist attacks.

He said that it was distressing that even young children were among the victims of the recent suicide bombing at a mosque in Peshawar, saying, “These important sacrifices cannot be forgotten.”

In the struggle against terrorism, the premier declared that K-P had continued to be the frontline province, and that its sacrifices would never be forgotten.

The prime minister sounded the alarm that terrorism might spread to other parts of the nation if immediate action was not done to stop it.

He swore to “unitedly” battle the evil and keep the nation peaceful.

While stating that an in-camera session could be called for further discussion, he also removed the topic of terrorism off the cabinet’s regular agenda.

The comments made by PM Shehbaz coincide with an increase in terrorism, particularly in the K-P region.

Earlier this week, a suicide bomber detonated himself in a mosque in Peshawar’s heavily protected Police Lines neighborhood during the afternoon prayers, leaving at least 100 people dead, most of them cops, and many wounded.

The suicide bomber was positioned in the mosque’s first row when the explosion occurred, according to officials.

According to Muhammad Ijaz Khan, a Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), the bomber set up his device as hundreds of people were gathered for prayers.
