LAHORE: PML-N On Friday, Punjab President Rana Sanaullah said that his party will be contesting the upcoming general elections alone in the province, implying that it would be fielding candidates in all constituencies of Punjab.

At a press conference in Lahore, the minister confirmed that no electoral coalitions would be formed with any other party. However, in a small number of districts, it might be necessary to rearrange the seats.

He assured everyone that the party would be actively involved in the Punjabi election process. Therefore, PML-N plans to nominate candidates in all 146 National Assembly districts and 297 provincial districts.

Sanaullah said the party was now organized all the way down to the Union Council level, which allowed them to nominate candidates in districts where they had not done so in previous elections.

He recalled the party’s time in power from 2013 and 2018, saying that if Nawaz Sharif hadn’t been removed as party chief, Pakistan would be further along the path to economic growth and unemployment would have vanished. He lamented that Nawaz was “punished” just as the country was poised to enter the global economic stage as a nuclear superpower. Nawaz Sharif was always the one to save the country from disaster. Still, he was always disciplined,” the man said.

“I really, really, really hope there isn’t a plot against Nawaz.”

The minister, who was referring to PTI leader Imran Khan, lamented that the country’s growth had stalled after 2017. He said this was because a “element” had been created after 2017 to split and poison the country’s politics, just as it had in 1999. He also noted that it drove the country closer to default and that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government, led by Nawaz Sharif, had gotten the country out of the crisis in under a year.

After the upcoming elections are a success, we pledge to keep working for the betterment of the country. We will end inflation, raise wages, help people with their problems, and make the rule of law absolute. Rana Sanaullah chimed in, “We will provide a better future for the youth and promote tolerance.”

The PML-N, he said, hoped there wouldn’t be a plot against Nawaz this time so that Pakistan could keep moving forward with its development, adding that his party didn’t believe in vengeance or hatred but rather in moving Pakistan forward.

In response to a question, Sanaullah emphasised that the measures taken against the May 9 perpetrators were not an act of political retribution. He advocated for punishment in accordance with the country’s laws. No one was being punished except those directly involved in the events on May 9.He added that the probe into the PTI leader’s detention was ongoing at the appropriate institutions. He assured them that the masterminds of May 9 would be brought to justice alongside the miscreants who had already been apprehended.

The future elections, the minister claimed, would be a cakewalk since voters would simply look at candidates’ track records and chose the most deserving ones. He further said that Nawaz Sharif would be required to consult with the PML-N parliamentary party before any decision was made about who will run for prime minister or chief minister.

In response to a question, he said that political dialogue had been ongoing for a full year, but that one political party had refused to participate, claiming that the PML-N would lead the country out of all crises if it returned to power, in addition to punishing those responsible for the rigging of the 2018 elections.

Later, Rana Sanaullah presided over a party meeting for the PML-N in Punjab, where top party leaders including Pervaiz Rasheed and Anusha Rehman were present.

At the meeting, it was resolved to ask each political party for a list of its candidates running in each district. All PML-N candidates were endorsed at the conference, and plans were finalised to give the party chief a hero’s welcome when he returns to Pakistan.
