In accordance with Section 233 of the Elections Act, 2017, the Elections Commission of Pakistan (ECP) consulted with various political parties on Wednesday over its proposed code of conduct for the upcoming general elections in ISLAMABAD and LAHORE.

Political party members reportedly met under the direction of Chief Election Commission Sikandar Sultan Raja to discuss the draught code of conduct and offer suggestions and input.

As stated in the report, “the ECP reviewed these proposals and assured [the representatives of political parties] that it would make appropriate amendments in the draught code [in light of the proposals].”

The organisation in charge of overseeing elections has pledged to adhere closely to the final code of conduct during the midterms. The ECP promises “fair and open elections.”

Parties represented at the meeting were the PML-N, PPP, PTI, JI, ANP, MQM, BAP, and TLP.The PTI chairman, Imran Khan, is currently being held in Adiala jail on charges related to a cypher case. The ECP has stated that it is prepared to issue a production order for Khan’s appearance in court.

Shoaib Shaheen, a lawyer for the PTI, has been told by the election watchdog that he must respond to the show-cause notice against his client in the contempt case. After the response is received, the ECP will issue the appropriate production order for Imran.

Contempt accusations against the former prime minister were reviewed by a panel of ECP officials led over by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

The court date for this matter has been set for October 24.Reaction from the PTIThe PTI has condemned the ECP’s efforts to charge the former prime minister, calling them “unconstitutional” and a “attempt to minus Imran from politics.”

A spokeswoman for the party said in a statement that they believe the ECP’s recent decision to issue a production order against Imran Khan in order to indict him is an act of retribution designed to remove him from politics. The spokesperson stated that the commission has been aggressively working against democracy and against the constitution.
