PPP’s Ghani has been in touch with PTI about running for mayor of Karachi.
Murtaza Wahab claims that JI’s Rehman was not a “son of Karachi” because he was born elsewhere.

Saeed Ghani, leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and minister of labor for the province of Sindh, told members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Monday that he had met with them to beg for their support in the upcoming mayoral elections in the city of Karachi, as reported by Express News.

At a press conference in the city, Ghani said he was “trying” to meet with PTI members and that he was not being prevented from doing so. They would also be asking the PTI union council (UC) chairperson to vote in their favor, as the provincial minister mentioned.

The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) team will be on standby on election day, and while it would be very appreciated if citizens voted, it is ultimately their choice whether or not to do so.

Ghani proceeded by saying that the opposition Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) had decided to seek relief from Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial and was on their way there.

It is worth noting that on June 7 JI filed a lawsuit with the Sindh High Court (SHC) against the revision of the Local Government Act to elect unelected persons as mayors in the state.

In addition, the PPP’s mayoral nominee Murtaza Wahab has been critical of the JI, claiming that party head Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman is not a “son of Karachi.” He claimed that both he and Ghani, as well as Salman Abdullah Murad, were locals.

Wahab, on the other hand, insisted that Rehman’s birth certificate be verified because, as he put it, “not Karachi” was the place of his birth.

He went on to say that the Shahrah-e-Quaideen will see that the PPP’s character and services are superior to those of the JI. For the next four years, according to Wahab, his party will be in power.

Ghani predicted last week that in the next election for mayor of Karachi, Rehman will not receive more than 160 votes from members of the City Council.

He claimed that while JI and its ally PTI will have 193 members in the newly created City Council, only 160 would vote for Naeem.

The JI Karachi chief may have his heart set on being elected as the city’s next mayor, but he’ll never get his desire, he added, and the next mayoral election on June 15 will show it.

Ghani told reporters that the PTI’s newly elected representatives in Karachi’s local government had already notified the party’s leadership before May 9 that they would not support the JI mayoral candidate.
