ISLAMABAD:
On Monday, caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar began a five-day campaign to vaccinate around 44 million children across the country against polio.

The campaign was kicked off at PM House, where the prime minister gave youngsters anti-polio vaccine oral drops and vitamin A. Senior government officials including the interim Health Minister, Dr. Nadeem Jan, were present.

At the event, Prime Minister Kakar said that 350,000 polio workers will be involved in the effort to vaccinate 44 million children under the age of five against polio.

Workers combating polio, whom he called “national heroes” for their tenacity, were singled out for special praise. He also spoke of the aid from Pakistan’s international allies in the effort to eradicate polio.

Kakar called on the clergy to do their part in persuading parents to vaccinate their children against polio.

He argued that protecting future generations from the effects of the sickness was a moral, ethical, and religious obligation. “We must eradicate polio in Pakistan.”
