Asif Ali Zardari, the president of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), visited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday night at the PM’s residence to discuss the government’s potential next steps in the wake of President Dr. Arif Alvi’s attempt to compel the ruling alliance to hold elections in two provinces. The Supreme Court has since taken up the case while exercising its suo moto jurisdiction.

The two senior members of the ruling alliance also discussed shrinking the size of the federal cabinet as part of their strategy of fiscal restraint in the midst of the financial crisis. The PPPP president reportedly spoke with the prime minister, per an official statement. It claimed that the prime minister welcomed Zardari, another former president, as he arrived at the PM House. The private conversation was followed by dinner.

The decision of the federal cabinet to give the prime minister the authority to write a letter to President Dr. Arif Alvi in relation to the president’s move to unilaterally announce the date for the elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was reportedly one of the potential topics of discussion between the prime minister and the leader of a significant allied party (K-P).

The president’s declaration of the election dates in two provinces on Wednesday, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz and his cabinet, was unconstitutional. The premier then declared that, on behalf of the government, he will send President Alvi a letter denouncing his behavior.

After the Electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declined his request to call a meeting to discuss the schedule for elections in the two provinces, President Alvi fixed April 9 as the poll date on February 20.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Thursday that the success of the Youth Loan Program, which in addition to helping unemployed youth, also benefitted the national economy, was a key factor in the country’s development.

Speaking during a ceremony to distribute checks to the Prime Minister Youth Loan Program recipients, the prime minister predicted that if given enough opportunities, Pakistan’s young would lead the nation to new heights.

He said that the loan programme was a continuation of the PM Youth Loan programme, which was first introduced in 2013 by then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif and distributed billions of rupees to eligible youth.

The prime minister remembered that the CM Youth Loan Program had also been introduced in Punjab, where 75,000 young people had received loans for vehicles.

He said that the youth loan program’s recovery rate was close to 99 percent, demonstrating the honesty of the nation’s young people.

The 99% recovery rate of the youth and Kissan loan programmes, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz, disproves the common misperception regarding the hazards associated with individual bank loans.

The prime minister made the statement, “I am offering laptops, not Kalashnikovs,” after distributing checks to those who had benefited from the loan programme and announcing the Freelancer Card.

The importance of the longstanding alliance between Pakistan and the United States was emphasised by the prime minister, who also emphasised the need to make it diversified and multifaceted.

He emphasised the importance of legislative contacts between the two nations, both of which are thriving democracies, in fostering political understanding.

When a Democratic Party delegation from the US Senate, comprised of six senators and led by Senate Majority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer, visited him, the prime minister voiced his opinions.

Senators Maria Cantwell, Amy Klobuchar, Gary Peters, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Peter Welch were also included in the trip.

The US Congress was encouraged by the prime minister to take responsibility for speaking out for Kashmiri rights and against an upsurge in anti-Muslim militancy in India.

In expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the team, Senator Schumer expressed the intention to further deepen Pakistan-US bilateral ties in a number of ways through ongoing engagement and expanded collaboration.
