ISLAMABAD: Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), applied for post-arrest bail on Friday in the case involving his accusations that Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chair of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), planned to assassinate Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to Express News, Sheikh Rashid has filed a post-arrest bail request with the IHC, which is scheduled to be considered on Monday. A district and sessions court previously denied two of his bail requests.

The AML leader said in his plea statement that he is the object of a political vengeance and that this is why cases have been filed against him.

The petition claims that a case was filed about the remarks made about Zardari “on the complaint of another person” rather than “on the complaint of the injured individual.”

The petitioner asked the court to set bail, saying, “I am in jail and now the police do not require me for any further inquiry.”

Sheikh Rashid’s second post-arrest bail request had been denied by a district and sessions court the day before. Rashid had appealed the judge’s decision to reject his prior bail request.

The former minister is currently in the care of Murree police after an Islamabad sessions court granted them a one-day transit remand. On February 3, a lawsuit was brought against him in Murree.

The incident

Rashid was taken into custody by the Islamabad police last week after a late-night raid on his private housing society home in the nation’s capital.

For stating that former president Zardari was plotting a plot to murder Imran Khan, an application to lodge a complaint against the ex-minister was made to the Abpara Police Station.
