A prominent human rights lawyer and activist, Jibran Nasir, has been missing since Thursday, and on Friday, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah voiced his “concern” over his whereabouts.

Mansha Pasha, Nasir’s wife, claims she was in the car with him yesterday when a group of heavily armed men in several vehicles kidnapped him from outside their home in Karachi’s DHA neighborhood.

“As we were walking home after supper, a white Vigo suddenly appeared and nearly ran us down. In her video statement, Pasha claimed, “They forcibly took away my husband; there were 15 men with pistols.”

Former independent Karachi candidate in the 2018 general elections, Nasir, has spoken out against the recent governmental crackdown on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and judicial processes surrounding individuals accused of inciting riots.

Since May 9th, three things have become clear: 1) The establishment may be able to prevent Imran the person from participating in future elections, but they cannot prevent Imran the narrative. The Establishment still hasn’t learned from either Panama or 9th May that it can’t impose its narrative on the voting public.

Foreign Policy Magazine recognized him as one of three Pakistani heroes in 2013 for his efforts to reduce sectarian bloodshed.

Earlier this month, authorities also detained journalists Imran Riaz Khan, Aftab Iqbal, and Sami Ibrahim, who are all seen as PTI supporters.

While Ibrahim and Iqbal’s whereabouts have been confirmed, Imran Riaz Khan’s have not.

In light of today’s events, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah has requested a report on Nasir’s disappearance from the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The IGP has been given strict instructions to expedite the activist’s healing time to the greatest extent possible.
