Ex-Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Ex-Foreign Minister and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi both had bail applications denied by an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Saturday, according to reports out of LAHORE.

Due to Chaudhry’s absence from court, the judge revoked his interim bail.

While pronouncing the verdict, Judge Abhar Gul also ordered the termination of bail for Qureshi and Chaudhry in charges relating to the violence on May 9. Due to noncompliance, the bail was revoked by the court.

Cases 366/23 and 367/23 filed at the Model Town police station reveal that bail was dismissed for both leaders.

Since Qureshi failed to appear in court for two cases, the ATC denied his requests for temporary bail and an exemption from appearance.

Cypher case read: Qureshi given a 14-day judicial remand

As Qureshi is now detained in connection with the cypher case, his lawyer, Ali Bukhari, has submitted two separate motions requesting a day’s respite from court appearance.

The prosecutor asked the judge to deny Qureshi’s bail during the hearing. Bukhari argued that his client “has been sent to jail on court orders” and was therefore not purposefully absent.

Although he acknowledged that his client’s situation was unusual, he insisted that he was not seeking “extraordinary relief” and was instead requesting that he be excused from court.
