According to official Chinese media, President Xi Jinping of China stated on Wednesday that his country is eager to work with the United States as long as the two countries can agree to put aside their differences and work together to address global concerns.

In a letter read at the annual dinner of the National Committee on United States-China Relations in New York, Xi argued that the world would be better off if the United States and China could find the “right” way of getting along.
Xi Jinping’s appeal for stronger bilateral ties, which he says should be founded on “mutual respect, peaceful co-existence, and win-win cooperation,” comes as Foreign Minister Wang Yi prepares to travel to Washington for an important meeting later this week.
The three-day visit by China’s top diplomat from Thursday through Saturday is the highest-level in-person interaction before to an anticipated meeting between Vice President Joe Biden and Xi in San Francisco at the APEC conference in November.
This summer, several high-ranking American officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, visited Beijing to meet with their Chinese counterparts.
Washington’s top objective has been preventing a military confrontation between the world’s two largest economies amid their fierce competition and conflicts over a wide range of topics, including trade, Taiwan, and the South China Sea.
Writing in the state-controlled Global Times, Chinese commentators believe Wang’s visit will pave the way for a possible meeting between the heads of the two states but stressed that Washington needs to make concrete measures to resolve Beijing’s concerns and show its seriousness.
