After a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Karachi, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad has announced that Eidul Azha will be observed on September 29.
KARACHI:
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, chairman of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, made the announcement on Monday that the first day of Eidul Azha would be observed across Pakistan on June 29 (Thursday).
In the days leading up to the announcement, the moon-sighting committee and other zonal committees met in all of the country’s province capitals.
Islamabad, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Khanpur, Ghotki, Karachi, Bahawalnagar, and Peshawar were just some of the cities that reported seeing the moon of Zilhaj.
“So it was unanimously decided that the first of Zilhaj… will fall on June 20, 2023, and Eidul Azha will be celebrated on June 29, 2023,” he said.
The Pakistani moon sighting was attended by both the central and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees, as well as meteorological specialists and representatives of the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
Every able-bodied Muslim should perform the Hajj, one of Islam’s five pillars, and celebrate its completion on Eidul Azha.
The Islamic month of Zilhaj began on Monday, June 19, thanks to the announcement of the sighting of the Zilhaj moon in Saudi Arabia; the celebration of Eidul Azha will begin on Wednesday, June 28.
It is common practice for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf countries to celebrate both Eidul Fitr and Eidul Azha on the same day.
