ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) opened the first Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Hotline in the country on Thursday. Together with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and with funding from the Australian High Commission, this project sets up a national system for reporting trafficking victims and a management information system (MIS) to make it easier for them to get help.
ADG Immigration, Director General of the FIA Mohsin Hassan, the country agent of UNODC, the Australian deputy high commissioner, the director of the ILO, a US political advisor, and other important people attended the ceremony. It was a big step forward in the fight against human trafficking.
FIA Additional Director Shireen Malik Sher talked about the project’s most important parts and emphasised how unique it was as the first effort to guarantee a quick reaction. With just one click, the TIP facilitation centre will quickly send complaints about traffickers to the right police stations across the country. Victims of trafficking will also be quickly sent to the right welfare offices.
In his speech to the crowd, DG FIA Mohsin Hassan Butt emphasised how important the National TIP Hotline project was and how important it was to the ongoing fight against trafficking crimes. The deputy high commissioner for Australia praised the FIA and ILO for working together and said that the launch of this app was a big step forward in the fight against all kinds of human trafficking. This new way of doing things is meant to help victims in more ways and make it easier to report and deal with cases of human trafficking all over Pakistan.
DG FIA Mohsin Hassan Butt said in his closing comments that he was very thankful that the UNODC had helped the FIA and that the FIA had been a proud partner in a long and successful partnership with the UNODC.
