DUBAI: Video footage depicting a fire at the ancestral home in Iran of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, have surfaced on social media, with activists claiming that demonstrators were responsible for setting the fire.

Reuters was able to determine the locations of two video snippets by comparing file photos to characteristic arches and buildings in the footage.

The semi-official Tasnim news agency, on the other hand, refuted the claim that Khomeini’s house had been set on fire and instead stated that a small group of individuals had assembled outside the house.

The films that have been shared on social media show a large number of people cheering as they watch a structure catch fire.

Independent verification of the dates on which the recordings were filmed was not possible for Reuters. The activist network 1500Tasvir reported that the incident took place on Thursday evening in the city of Khomein, which is located to the south of Tehran. Khomeini was born there.

The home had been remodeled into a museum by that point.

Tasnim alleged that the report contained false information. “Anyone who would like to enter can do so through the open doors of the home of the late founder of the great revolution.”

Khomeini died in 1989.

Since the death of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini while she was in the custody of Iran’s morality police in September, his successor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been under intense pressure from nationwide protests calling for an end to hardline clerical rule. These protests have been calling for an end to hardline clerical rule.

Separate videos that were uploaded by 1500Tasvir purported to show protesters in several cities in the province of Sistan-Baluchistan. These cities included Zahedan, the capital of the province, where demonstrators chanted “Death to Khamenei,” and Chabahar, where protesters removed and trampled the sign of an avenue named after Ayatollah Khomeini.

According to state media, a funeral ceremony was organised by the authorities for seven persons who had been killed in the city of Izeh, which is located in the southwestern region of the country.

In the other hand, the mother of a 10-year-old boy named Kian Pirfalak could be heard on videos shared on social media laying blame for her son’s death on members of the security forces.

A video that was uploaded to social media and claimed to be from the funeral of Pirfalak showed protesters yelling “Khamenei we will bury you.”

Reuters’ own internal investigations were unable to confirm the genuineness of the videos.

Tasnim said on Friday that there were pro-government rallies in the city of Mashhad, which is located in the northeastern part of Iran. On Thursday, two members of the Basij militia were slain there.

The funeral of Aylar Haghi, a medical student who was allegedly slain by security forces during demonstrations in the city of Tabriz in the country’s far northwestern region, was attended by a crowd. Videos shared on social media showed riot police assaulting the gathering. She was alleged to have died after slipping into an excavation at a construction site, according to the authorities.

Late on Friday, demonstrations continued in numerous cities and towns in the Kurdish-populated northwest, including Piranshahr, where, according to a video published by the human rights group Hengaw, demonstrators occupied a police station. Reuters was unable to independently confirm the video.

According to the news site run by the Revolutionary Guards, during fights with protesters that took place on Thursday evening, two intelligence personnel were slain.

In addition, it was reported that on Thursday, three additional members of the Revolutionary Guards and a member of the Basiji were killed in Tehran, and that on Thursday, one member of the Basiji and one member of the police were killed in Kurdistan.
