In the first phase of the local government elections that were held in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) after a gap of thirty years, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) grabbed the lead over its rivals, the PML-N and the PPP, on Sunday. These elections were held in MUZAFFARABAD.

According to results that are not yet official, the PTI was successful in winning six out of a total of 18 union council seats in Hattian Bala’s Jhelum Valley.

The PML-N was successful in winning three seats, and the PPP won two seats in the election.

According to unconfirmed statistics, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has taken the lead in Neelum Valley, where they have won eight UC seats.

While the PPP was only able to get two seats in the Neelum Valley constituency, the PML-N won three.

There were also two successful independent candidates that ran for those seats, and they won both of them.

Despite this, the PML-N was currently in the lead in the contest for the wards of the Muzaffarabad Municipal Corporation.

The PML-N was successful in winning 12 seats in the Muzaffarabad Municipal Corporation’s elections, according to the preliminary results from 29 of the city’s 36 wards. After that, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Pakistan People’s Party each won six wards.

Candidates running as independents were victorious in five wards, but the Muslim Conference was only successful in one.

According to the reports, there was an exchange of fire between two sides at two different voting locations, which resulted in several people, including a woman, being injured.

The official Twitter account of the PTI stated in a tweet that the organisation had won 34 of the UC seats. This was followed by the PML-N with nine seats, the PPP with 23, independent candidates with four seats, and the Muslim Conference with three seats.

In the first phase of local government elections in AJK, the districts of Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, and Hattian Bala each had 595 seats up for grabs. There were a total of 2,716 candidates vying for those seats, including 900 independent candidates.

The voting for the second round of the election will take place on December 3 across four districts of the Poonch Division.

In the first phase, voting went on nonstop from eight in the morning until five in the afternoon, with no breaks in between.

The level of enthusiasm shown by locals in the elections was reflected in the lengthy lines that formed outside of polling locations on election day.

In the first phase of voting for these elections, which took place in three districts of the Muzaffarabad division, the election commission reports that a total of 695,049 voters, including 320,747 female voters, exercised their right to vote.

According to the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Muzaffarabad, Irfan Masood Kashfi, 4,500 police officers were stationed at polling stations, and a quick response force was established in each sector of the city. This force was led by DSP-rank officers, and it could reach any location within 15 minutes.

The official went on to say that the army was also put on standby during the voting process in order to control any unpleasant situations that may arise.

Justice (retired) Abdul Rasheed Sulehria, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), and Raja Farooq Niaz, a senior member of the commission, both visited various polling locations in the city of Muzaffarabad and expressed their contentment with the voting process.

This day will be remembered in the history of the region for a long time, as devolution of power from the Centre to local bodies is going to take place there after a long pause of over three decades, according to AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, who stated that this day would be remembered in the history of the region for a long time.

In his conversation with the media, he stated that the government of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) deserved the credit for holding the local government elections in AJK since it did not waver from its principled stance that powers should be handed to the lower level.
