According to family sources, Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has made the decision to seek an early retirement.
There were a total of six senior generals, including Gen. Faiz, who were under consideration for the posts of CJCSC and chief of army staff.
In light of the fact that he was passed over for the position of army commander, Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has chosen to seek early retirement, according to sources close to his family who spoke with The Express Tribune on Saturday.
According to a source close to the family, “Yes, Gen Saab has chosen to try to take an early retirement.”
Lt. Gen. Faiz was one of the six most senior generals who were taken into consideration for the roles of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and the chief of army staff.
The administration followed the idea of seniority when making their decisions and chose General Asim Munir to lead the army and General Sahir Shamshad to lead the Joint Chiefs of Staff committee.
For a variety of reasons, Lt. Gen. Faiz has continued to be in the public eye over the course of several years.

He first came to public attention while serving as the Director General of Counterintelligence for the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), which is also abbreviated as DG-C. In November of 2017, his name appeared on the deal that the government had signed with Tehreek-e-Labaik (TLP) to bring an end to the 21-day sit-in that had been taking place at Faizabad.
After some time had passed, he was given the rank of Lieutenant General and then went back to his position as head of the ISI. The PML-N has accused him of trying to influence the judiciary in order to secure convictions against its leadership on multiple occasions.
When the then-prime minister, Imran Khan, wanted him to continue in his role as DG ISI, but the Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had other intentions for him, he found himself at the heart of yet another controversy.
It has been said by many who are familiar with General Faiz and who work with him that he is an outstanding officer.

In the meantime, the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Azhar Abbas, has already made the decision to resign. Both General Azhar and General Faiz had their retirements scheduled for April of the next year.
According to several reports from reliable sources, it’s possible that another general will leave the army in the near future. This indicates that the incoming chief of the army will be responsible for assembling his own team immediately away.
He would have the opportunity to appoint his personnel to critical roles like as Chief of General Staff and Rawalpindi Corps Commander respectively.
It is extremely unusual for generals who are not in the process of being replaced to decide to step down prior to their scheduled retirement age.
