GEN ASIM THE NEWLY APPOINTED COAS CALLS ON PM

On the first day of his visit, the army commander met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to talk about issues relating to national security.

ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, and the Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Muneer, paid separate visits to President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to a statement that was issued by the PM media wing, PM Shehbaz extended his congratulations to the newly appointed military head on his assumption of office.

Both parties talked about subjects relating to their careers as well as issues concerning the safety of the nation during what was the first meeting between them since the new army chief took command a day earlier.

“The nomination of you as army chief has brought joy to the entire nation. The prime minister is quoted as adding that the relationships of trust and love between the people and the armed services will continue to deepen.

The Prime Minister said that the professional development of the institution would benefit from the leadership of a qualified officer such as yourself, and he asserted that this would happen.

Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff, extended his gratitude to the Prime Minister.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz called the army chief on the phone to offer his congratulations on his promotion to the position of head of the military, which Shehbaz described as a significant honour.

He went on to say that the appointment of someone with a high level of professional capability at the helm of the military was a blessing from Allah.

The prime minister gave the head of the army his word that he would support the army commander in any way possible in the interests of national defence, security, and safety.

The Prime Minister (PM) of the country stated that the nation was proud of the role that its military forces played in preserving the motherland and combating terrorism. He expressed trust in the professionalism of the country’s security services.

At the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the newly appointed Chief Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Muneer both conducted separate talks with President Dr. Arif Alvi to discuss professional topics relating to the army.

The week before last, General Asim Muni was selected to serve as the nation’s 17th army chief, and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza was selected to serve as the head of the committee that oversees the joint chiefs of staff. Gen Mirza took over leadership on November 27, and Gen Munir took over leadership on November 29.
