Court matters Asad Umar has received a contempt warning for his anti-judiciary remarks.
The court requires that arguments be presented in the case’s next hearing, which is scheduled for December 7.
ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Asad Umar received a contempt of court summons from the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench for making a ‘anti-judiciary remark’ during the party’s lengthy march.
In a matter involving road restrictions that happened in the capital before to the PTI long march, Justice Jawad Hassan presided over the hearing in the high court.
The PTI leader apparently spoke out against the judiciary during the long march, and Justice Hassan noted this during the hearing. He then issued a contempt of court summons, requesting a response by December 7.
Justice Hassan added that “everyone has the right to peaceful protest.” He continued by saying that the demonstration was over and that the matter was closed.
The court subsequently ordered that arguments be presented in the upcoming hearing in the road closure case, which was set for December 7.
In response to a request from the Election Commission of Pakistan for aggregation and transfer of all six challenges to its contempt notice against them pending before various high courts, the SC delivered letters to PTI leader Imran Khan and party leaders Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry in November.
