UNITED NATIONS:
Pakistan’s four yearly disarmament-related resolutions were accepted by the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday. These resolutions aim to promote regional as well as worldwide peace and security, and their adoption reflects Islamabad’s commitment to achieving those goals.

The First Committee of the 193-member Assembly (which is responsible for disarmament and international security) made the recommendation to adopt the resolutions, and the membership of that committee gave their unanimous approval to the contents.

Three of these resolutions deal with disarmament on the regional level, control of conventional weaponry at the regional and sub-regional levels, and confidence building measures (also known as CBMs) in the context of the regional and sub-regional levels.

The fourth resolution was forward by Pakistan demanded that non-nuclear-weapon states be provided with international security guarantees.
