ISLAMABAD:
On Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a call to businesspeople, industrialists, and foreigners to help the government’s flood recovery efforts by adopting the strategy of constructing 100-unit prefabricated homes for flood victims.
The prime minister asked the wealthy people to “adopt” the flood-affected people of Balochistan and Sindh by giving them with the infrastructure complete with the amenities they require during his remarks at the inauguration ceremony of prefabricated residential units in Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
Shehbaz had declared in September that homes will be built for those displaced by the floods in Tank and Dera Ismail Khan. Menzies Aviation and former special assistant to the prime minister on aviation Capt Shujaat Azeem undertook the Rs140 million project as a charitable act.
The residential apartments’ keys were given to flood victims by Shehbaz. He expressed happiness that the two-room, kitchenette, and bathroom accommodations will bring assistance to the displaced people.
The latest floods caused significant damage to 2 million homes, infrastructure, and highways, according to the prime minister. Nevertheless, he expressed satisfaction that the federal, provincial, and commercial sectors made every effort to help the impacted people.
In the flood-affected areas, he praised the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the provincial disaster management agencies for their work in providing relief and rehabilitation. He said that Rs70 billion had been distributed to flood victims by the federal government.
Shehbaz claimed that the military was crucial in helping those who were stranded by floods. He also underlined the aid that friendly nations have provided to Pakistan in order to help it deal with the flood problem.
Speaking at the event, Planning Minister Dr. Ahsan Iqbal stated that although Pakistan had just experienced a major flood disaster, the government’s federal and provincial agencies, as well as the civil and military troops, had worked together to overcome the difficulty.
He asserted that the government pushed the commercial sector to support public welfare through corporate social responsibility. He declared that Pakistan would host an international conference to solicit assistance from other nations for post-flood recovery.
Mehmood Ahmed Khan, a member of the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Assembly, praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for putting the residential housing for the flood victims into place so quickly. In the interest of the populace, he declared, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam would support the government’s development efforts.
According to Capt. Shujaat Azeem, the effort to provide shelter for those who are suffering as a result of climate change’s severe effects is a crucial one. The model town would be reproduced throughout the nation, the prime minister requested, he said.
According to Moetesum Khurshid, CEO of Menzies Aviation, the project’s goal was to provide the flood victims with dwelling units before the arrival of winter. He stated that his business finished the project in a month after the NDMA allotted land on September 3.
He said that the prefabricated homes included solar panels and could withstand extreme temperatures. On-site facilities include a hospital with paramedic services on hand and a school. The residential area, where 9,000 native trees had been planted, had tubewells for clean water.
