ISLAMABAD: According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave his approval on Friday to the recommendations of the Central Selection Board (CSB) for the promotion of officers from all groups as well as ex-cadre officers in Grade 20 and Grade 21. This came after the Prime Minister minutely reviewed the minutes of the CSB meeting.

However, according to the sources, the Prime Minister decided to defer some of the officials rather than follow the advice to supersede them. According to the sources, after the consent of the prime minister has been received, the Establishment Division together with the relevant secretaries would release notifications regarding the promotions and new appointments of officers.

The CSB met for a total of six days, beginning on the 10th and ending on the 15th of August. Officers from all services and organisations, including ex-cadets, were eligible for promotion after the CSB’s recommendation, which was made for grades 20 and 21. After some time had passed, the Establishment Division forwarded the suggestions to the Prime Minister’s Office for final approval.

More than two and a half months passed while the topic was being deliberated at the Prime Minister’s Office. According to the sources, the Prime Minister gave his assent to the CSB minutes on Friday after conducting an in-depth examination of the minutes earlier in the week. The minutes were then transmitted to the Establishment Division.

According to the sources, during this time period, several officers who had not been considered for advancement delivered a presentation to the prime minister regarding their reservations about the promotion process. They went on to say that the Prime Minister had personally looked into the subject and had it verified through his own networks of contacts.

According to the sources, the Prime Minister believed that the decision to supersede some officers was unfair. As a result, he issued orders to the members of CSB to transform the supersession into a postponement and directed for adopting the remaining CSB recommendations.

The Establishment Division had begun making plans for announcing the promotions and appointments shortly after obtaining the CSB minutes from the Prime Minister’s Office and shortly after receiving them back. According to the sources, the notifications will most likely be distributed on Monday.
