The “unprovoked” Afghan Taliban shelling that murdered six Pakistanis over the Chaman border was severely denounced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday.

Shehbaz expressed his views on Twitter using his official account. He stated that the “unprovoked shelling and fire” merits “the harshest condemnation,” saying that the “unfortunate” incident resulted in the deaths of three Pakistanis and the injuries of more than a dozen others.

The interim Afghan administration, which is not yet recognised internationally, was encouraged by the prime minister to “guarantee that such incidents are not repeated.”

A day prior, six civilians were killed and over twenty-four others were injured when Afghan soldiers launched rockets into Pakistani territory from across the Chaman border. The rockets fell in Killi Sheikh Lal Muhammad.

In order to prevent any civilian losses, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated in a statement that the Pakistani military responded to the aggression in a methodical manner.

The military’s media wing added that Pakistan has contacted the Afghan government in Kabul to emphasise the seriousness of the issue and urge rigorous measures to prevent a repeat of the tragedy.

Residents of Killi Sheikh Lal Muhammad reported that missiles landed near to their homes and that the rocket firing began abruptly.

The Chaman Civil Hospital had an emergency declared, therefore the victims and injured were initially transferred there.

Mir Quddus Bizenjo, the chief minister of Balochistan, also vehemently denounced the incident and ordered the local government to safeguard the populace. Additionally, he gave the health department instructions to guarantee that the injured received better medical care.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah expressed worry about the rocket launch and stated that information about the terrible incident was being gathered.

He expressed sorrow over the citizen fatalities and injuries and requested that the Balochistan government give the affected people all the assistance they need.

Tense relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan

Since the Taliban took back control of Kabul on Sunday, tensions between the two neighbours have significantly increased.

The rise of terrorist strikes has already strained relations between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime.

Pakistan claims that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates are being ignored by the Afghan interim administration.

Pakistan has experienced 51% more attacks since the Taliban retook power when the TTP broke the truce with Pakistan on November 28 and started attacking again.

In particular, in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Balochistan, where the TTP has attacked the security forces, there has been an increase in terrorist strikes across the nation.

The head of Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in Kabul narrowly escaped an attempted murder last week.
