Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in New York on Tuesday in preparation for his role as the host of a special ministerial conference of the G-77 and China at the headquarters of the United Nations.

The conference of the G-77 and China, the largest negotiating bloc of developing nations inside the UN system, will take place on the 15th and 16th of December, and the foreign minister will host and chair the event.

A discussion on the many obstacles that developing nations confront in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic, climate-induced disasters, and geopolitical developments is on the programme for the conference.

From December 14 through December 21, the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs will be in the United States on an official visit.

According to a statement made by a representative for the foreign office in a previous news release, the foreign minister’s schedule would include various multilateral and bilateral engagements in New York and Washington, DC.

The meeting between the Foreign Minister and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, will take place on December 14, and the Foreign Minister will also take part in a high-level debate at the United Nations Security Council on December 14 on the topic of “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism.”

On December 19, he will go on a trip to Washington, DC, where he is scheduled to meet with senior-level government officials, congressional leaders, Pakistani-American companies, and members of the community. In addition to this, he will interact with several think tanks as well as the media.

The statement went on to say that “during his official meetings, bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest will be discussed to carry forward the momentum in Pakistan-US bilateral relations, particularly in areas of trade, investment, climate resilience, and economic development,” as quoted in the statement.

In addition to this, the foreign minister will present Pakistan’s viewpoint on climate change, and he will educate his interlocutors on the enormous damage that has been caused by climate-related floods in Pakistan, as well as the post-flood reconstruction and rehabilitation plan that the government of Pakistan has in place.
